Expo
2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan is a global exhibition,
which offers people the opportunity to come together
and discuss global environmental issues. The event brings people together to try to "create a model
community for the future where people can live in harmony
with nature."
The ticketing system for the Expo
2005 exhibition was utilise the Hitachi µ chip.
The world's smallest RFID chip; the chip will be imbedded
into the paper tickets for the event. Each ticket
had its own unique ID; attendees then used
their unique ID over the Internet or by telephone
to make reservations for entrance into the pavilions.
Disabled attendees were also able to make arrangements for
any special services that they may require.
At the event itself ticket holders passed their tickets
over a contact-less reader, which confirms their identities.
The benefits of the system include, shorter waiting
times, reduction of fraud and easy tracking of attendee
numbers. It is also possible for these tickets to
carry additional information. For example, children's
tickets could carry cellular phone numbers, so that
in the event of a child getting separated from their
guardians, reuniting them would be quicker and easier.
